Some idea about the mentorship which was mentioned in <Art and Design Practice-Based Research Degree Supervision> by John Hockey
I’m quite wondering what kind of resources are needed for the mentorship in these degree. Personally, I think the supervisors should know the student’s process of education very well, which means they would make discussion or tutorial with the student, understanding what the student want to get from their project and what the student want to present through the art work. Besides, they should know the student’s background well. At present, there’re more and more international student in UK, especially in the higher education institution. So the thing shouldn’t be ignored is that the international student has different culture background. Sometimes, they might have a different thinking way and different attitude to deal with things. So the supervisors should try to learn and understand the student’s culture background, which could be very helpful for them to know the student’s particular situation well, assisting them to find the point of problem that every student has. In that way, the supervisors could give a better solution or an appropriate teaching method for each individual student
